Habitat Gardening

With a little planning, you can encourage native wildlife into your backyard. By putting in native plants and having areas such as nest boxes, your new wildlife haven can require less maintenance and water compared to an exotic garden.

The natural biodiversity of Wyndham — which once included expansive grasslands and wetlands along our rivers and streams — has been affected badly by urbanisation. Climate change now poses new and compounding threats with ongoing lower rainfall and a predicted increase in heatwaves and hot days. Our local area, along with the rest of Australia and the world, is facing a biodiversity crisis. So let’s try and create as much habitat as possible in our own backyards!

At this workshop, each household will take home a next box to put together at home as well as learn about some of the common species that they may find in their backyards.

Bookings essential.
